~Angelaa~ Update: Blurry vision. Gonna Start Dating. Rosie sees hematologist tomorrow

    Haven’t been feeling too great.

    Stressed over Bret Michaels health.

I have had blurry vision for a few hours. Hope it is only temporary. Had it before. It normally goes away the next day but on one occasion it lingered for a few weeks. Sugar has been erratic due to stress but it normal as I type this.

Also been having leg and foot cramps.

Found out that my insurance paid $5,076.00 for my new insulin pump. Bet they just love me!!!! LOL~ I owe nothing. Paid in full! I am so grateful.

Think I am about ready to date again. Been over 15 years. Having social anxiety hampers dating to say the least! Told John last night that I was gonna start talking to other men. Just don’t know what else to do. John and I will never be together. Way too many obstacles in our way. He and I are still gonna be best friends and he understands my loneliness. He is the best.

I have so many important life changing decisions to make. Just don’t know which way to turn. I ask the precious Lord Jesus to Guide me.

Rosie sees her hematologist tomorrow in regards to her abnormal labs, By looking at her labs alone you would think she has leukemia but I pray that is not the case. She has so many health issues as it is. I pray that Dr Huntsinger can explain what is happening and do more testing.

Pray for good weather tomorrow. So difficult to load and unload Rosie and her wheelchair when it is raining. Takes both me and Dad to do it… so all 3 of us get soaked.

I love my new shorter hair YET I am missing my long hair… so I ordered  a flaming red ponytail wig. Use to wear wigs all the time. I get bored easily and love being able to change my looks.

Truly been praying for Bret day and night non-stop. Pray that he is resting well.Help the docs locate and stop the bleeding in his brain. Lord, help Bret make a speedy and total recovery.

I pray that Bret goes on to live a long health life so he  raise his lovely daughters Raine Elizabeth and Jorja-Bleu. God, Be with the girls and comfort them.

Hope to hear a good report in regards to Bret tomorrow.

Gonna fiddle around on the PC awhile longer and then head to bed.

    Love and Prayers to all,

    ~Angela Belle

Rocker Bret Michaels Tackles Diabetes on “Celebrity Apprentice”

    By Katie Bunker

    Published April 12, 2010; updated April 13, 2010

As front man of the glam rock band Poison, Bret Michaels was once best known for the 1988 No. 1 hit “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” But Michaels, 47, now has a new generation of fans because of his romantic adventures on the VH1 reality show Rock of Love and his boardroom chats with Donald Trump on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice. Michaels, who has lived with type 1 diabetes since he was 6 years old, is competing this season on Apprentice to benefit people with diabetes. In the season’s first episode, Michaels brought in $100,000 for the American Diabetes Association. In the April 11 episode, Michaels found out that his 9-year-old daughter, Raine, had diabetes symptoms, including weight loss and frequent urination, and was being tested for the disease.

Michaels recently released a new single, “Nothing to Lose,” featuring Miley Cyrus, and he’s touring to promote a solo album, “Custom Built,” which comes out in June. (Michaels underwent an emergency appendectomy on April 12 and is expected to reschedule some tour dates). He spoke with Diabetes Forecast about his music, his diabetes, and his TV career.

You talk about your diabetes on Rock of Love and Celebrity Apprentice. Why do you want to let the world see this side of you?

There is no doubt that a huge part of who and what I am is that I’m a diabetic. I have great days and I have bad days. When I was a child and had diabetes, a lot of the old-school ways they tried to teach you [diabetes management] was through scare tactics—a guy with his leg amputated or blindness. It worked a little bit, but it also made you feel depressed. I want to say, look, there are complications and it is a tough disease to manage, but I’ve done it, and I live a ridiculously outrageous, crazy life. I still race around on a BMX bike and I’m 47; I will compete with kids and win. I go out there and try not to let [diabetes] get me down. It’s mind, muscle, music, and motivation over matter. You can have all the doctors, but unless you can self-motivate, no one can make you exercise or take your [insulin] shot at the right time or use your pump right. Find that one thing [that motivates you]. Like making sure I’m around to watch my daughters grow up.

What’s it like having fans know so much about your personal life?

I take full responsibility for walking in and doing a reality show, but yes, it is strange when people you don’t know will walk up to you at dinner and talk about a relationship with somebody and what they would have done differently. I was out on a date with someone who had nothing to do with the show, and all of a sudden a husband and wife walked up and said, “Oh, we love Amber [from Rock of Love],” and I was thinking, I’m on a date! And the girl I was with was like, “Oh, Amber? I thought you guys were broken up.” It’s weird to have that happen. People will talk like I’m not in the room. I’m really happy to have done Rock of Love and Nashville Star [formerly on USA network, premiering on NBC in June], but Apprentice came from a very personally motivated side—to raise a lot of awareness and money for diabetes.

What are your tips for keeping diabetes under control while keeping a hectic schedule?

I’m a really motivated, passionate person, and I find a way. I wish I knew a magic formula. It depends on self-motivation and how much you want to take on. You have to decide what works best for your life. For me, the more you do, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Like this week, I’ve got to fly back while I’m doing a show because we’re doing a new Rihanna [music] video. I fly in, then fly back out after five shows in a row. It gets tough, the blood sugars fluctuate, but I find a way. I’m going to have to get up earlier, get on the mountain bike, work out, get my blood sugar right, and go and do it. I want to do it.

Tell us about your diabetes management.

About six to eight blood sugar tests and four shots per day have been working for me. I wake up—whether it’s 8 a.m. or noon—and the first thing I do is test my blood sugar. I notice I’m high or low and adjust my insulin accordingly. I eat egg whites with turkey or chicken in one of those burrito wraps, and throw in a little fresh fruit. One thing I’ve learned about diabetes is to really lessen the portions you eat. If I could cut loose, I’d eat potato chips from day to night. I have to mentally fight it.

I exercise right after that. If I’m on the bike, I turn my cell on and do a bunch of business calls so I don’t realize I’ve ridden for an hour. Then I lift weights or whatever. Find whatever motivates you—go out and play hoops, just find a way to exercise. It’s not been a joy ride for me. I don’t want people to think I wake up at 105 [mg/dl] and life’s a breeze. I just find a way to control it. You have to accept that you have diabetes because it is the card you’ve been dealt.

What was it like leading the first task for the men’s team on Celebrity Apprentice?

In some ways I think it was great because that is sort of the story of my life: I was running on a fume; I literally played León, Mexico, the night before. I got in and found out the opposing team will pick who they want to be team leader. I said, “Guys, trust me, they’ll pick me. They know I’m tired. If they’ve seen Rock of Love, they’ll think I’m one and done.” [But] they forgot one thing: I spend most of my life running on a fume. Now I was fighting mad. I’m fighting for diabetes not only personally for me—I’ve had type 1 since I was 6—but [for] my daughter Raine.

And you won $100,000 for ADA.

What an amazing win. I was glad I wasn’t first to be fired. Most importantly, the whole purpose was to raise money for diabetes—not only awareness but for the charity. I think one of the biggest parts of diabetes—while we’re looking for a cure—is to help people who have already got it.

How about when you got the phone call that Raine was being tested for diabetes?

I literally found out while I was [filming Apprentice], and it left me at a big fork in the road: As a responsible father, you leave [the show] then and there, but at same time I knew this was the whole purpose. The irony is I’m fighting to show people you can live a great, normal life with diabetes.

With the TV shows, a new album, touring—what has meant the most to you?

I love being a father to my daughters Raine and Jorja [4]. And their mother, Kristi [Gibson], is a huge part of my life. My most important thing is making sure my daughters know their dad loves them. So I make every effort to be home, fly them out with me, and make sure they’re doing well in school.

Will you be doing a fourth season of Rock of Love?

They would love me to do a Rock of Love 4, and those three seasons were good, I had fun. But after Apprentice and touring … there’s a lot of partying on Rock of Love, and I need to take a year’s break from that. I don’t regret any of it. But I think my lips might need a break!

Rock of Love was all about your love life; how has diabetes had an impact on your relationships and dating?

I think sexuality is an important part of any healthy relationship. The more active you are, the more motivated, the more excited you are. In Rock of Love, there were moments that I would be on there and say I’m having a really low blood sugar; you’re going to have to give me time. Sometimes with diabetes it’s a lot to be on your mind. So far it’s mental motivation that makes the physical part of my relationships great.

How has your work on television affected your music and fan base?

Poison had two generations [of fans]—the original, and the college generation. With Rock of Love and Miley and Rihanna, and I did Guitar Hero 3, all of a sudden we’ve opened up to this third generation of young fans. Also, I did Nashville Star with LeAnn Rimes, so we opened up to country fans.

What projects are you working on now?

My new solo album “Custom Built” comes out June 8. All this year I’m doing Bret Michaels solo. The other members [of Poison] are taking a year off to rest; I’m just not that smart! Then next year will be Poison’s 25th anniversary of our album “Look What the Cat Dragged In.”

Next year we’re going to have a movie based on my Roses & Thorns autobiography [to be published later this year]. There have been so few legitimate rock movies made. Almost Famous is good, and Spinal Tap is probably one of the truest ones. That comedy of errors is truly what happens in rock and roll. I want to make a legitimate movie. We’ll be shooting in the fall.

Have you ever had a severe low during a concert? Do you do anything special to prepare for a show?

I try to let my blood sugar slide up a little bit before I go onstage, like 150 to 170, because it comes down dramatically while I’m performing. My first time ever playing Madison Square Garden, I went into insulin shock on stage. When you grow up on the East Coast all you hear is, “When you make it, kid, you play the Garden.” My first time ever, I was so excited and nervous. I took my insulin but didn’t eat. I woke up in the emergency room, and I was, like, what just happened?

You said in a Forecast interview, “Humor is essential to winning with diabetes.” How do you use humor?

Self-deprecating humor shows a side of us that can roll with the punches. One thing with diabetes: When I get overly stressed, my blood sugar can spike. It can go from 120 to 280 just over being stressed out about something—nothing to do with food—and I think in my situation being able to laugh at things that happen [is key]. To trip over my own two feet and laugh at it has helped me to maintain my blood sugar. The other day we were playing a show and we were in the middle of it, and I said, “Forgive me, everyone.” I told them to enjoy a song from my band, and I went and checked blood sugar. Rather than freaking or hiding it, I just took care of it. The arena laughed, I took some juice, and I came back on stage.

Hopes High for Rocker Bret Michaels

By KC Baker | Saturday, April 24, 2010 8:30 PM ET

Fans around the world — and here at Tonic — are praying for Bret Michaels, a longtime champion of diabetes research and awareness, who is fighting for his life after suffering a brain hemorrhage Thursday night.

Bret Michaels, the former Poison front man, the star of VH!’s Rock of Love and a top contender on the current season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice 3, remains in critical condition after being rushed to an undisclosed hospital Thursday night due to a massive brain hemorrhage.

Michaels, 47, who had suffered excruciating headaches in the days before the hemorrhage, is under “intense observation,” as doctors run tests to determine the cause of the subarachnoid hemorrhage or bleeding at the base of his brain stem, PEOPLE.com reports. “It will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation,” a source told PEOPLE on Thursday.

Doctors are trying to determine if the hemorrhage was possibly the result of a recently performed emergency appendectomy, or complications from Michaels’ Type 1 Diabetes, which has plagued him since he was a child.

While some reports said that Michaels’ condition had improved in the days following the hemorrhage, his rep told PEOPLE.com Saturday, “There are several incorrect reports on Bret’s condition. Bret remains in critical condition at an undisclosed location. Further tests are being run and information will be updated in the coming days.”

The hemorrhage came ten days after he was rushed to a hospital for an emergency appendectomy on April 12 in San Antonio, Texas, just before he was supposed to perform at Sea World for his “Custom Built” solo tour. “After the fact, they told me that if I had gone onstage like I wanted to, it likely would have ruptured and I could have died,” he wrote on Fancast.com after the surgery.

He blogged on Fancast.com that the surgery took a lot out of him. “As I write this, I’m feeling pretty bad … to tell you the truth,” he wrote. “When you’re not planning on having a body part ripped out of you, it can be a shock to the system. While the doctors are amazing in San Antonio, there is just no way around the fact that getting your appendix out HURTS. I have a pretty good threshold for pain, but this one hurts.

“I don’t know how much longer I will be under medical supervision. I’ve spoken to several doctors and they all seem to be impressed with the condition I have been able to keep myself in as a juvenile diabetic. But a lot of extra care needs to be taken to make sure my body heals correctly. It’s no secret I love my kids, my life, and being on the road, so I want to make sure I do everything I can now to make sure I can continue that later. They say it can take four to six weeks to recover, but maybe longer for a diabetic.”

He wasn’t feeling much better the day before the hemorrhage. “I’m feeling right about in the middle right now on a scale of 1 to 10,” Michaels wrote on Fancast.com. “I’m not 100% yet … I have to get my blood sugar back in order, because it’s been all over the place because every day I’ve been real active and you’re not supposed to move around yet.”

A Fierce Champion of Diabetes Research and Awareness

As someone who has battled diabetes most of his life, Michaels has used his fame to raise money for diabetes research and to raise awareness about the disease. On the first episode of Apprentice, he raised $100,000 for the charity of his choice, The American Diabetes Association — more than any other celebrity on the show so far — when he led the men’s team to victory as its project manager. “What an amazing win,” he told The American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Forecast afterward. “I was glad I wasn’t first to be fired. Most importantly, the whole purpose was to raise money for diabetes — not only awareness but for the charity. I think one of the biggest parts of diabetes — while we’re looking for a cure — is to help people who have already got it.”

Michaels has hosted and attended dozens of diabetes fundraisers during his career. Most recently, in October 2009, Michaels walked to find a cure as the honorary spokesman for the American Diabetes Association’s StepOut event at the South Street Seaport in New York City.

At the time, Michaels asked fans on Facebook to join him “in supporting this cause that is near and dear to all of our hearts here at Michaels Entertainment. As you may or may not know Bret has been diabetic since the age of six. This disease affects not only his life but so many others on a daily basis. Currently there is no cure.”

He told writer Bobbi Dempsey that he also likes to helps people with diabetes on a personal level. He told Dempsey that he likes to treats fans with diabetes to special backstage events and one-on-one meetings in which he talks to them about how he copes with life as a diabetic.

    A Rock Star Father’s Love…and Concern

Finding a cure for diabetes and raising as much money as possible for research took on more importance than ever for Michaels when he learned on the April 11 episode of Apprentice (which was taped months earlier) that his 9-year-old daughter, Raine, had been diagnosed as borderline diabetic.

The news brought him to tears. “I literally found out while I was [filming it],” he told Diabetes Forecast. “It left me at a big fork in the road: As a responsible father, you leave [the show] then and there, but at same time I knew this was the whole purpose. The irony is I’m fighting to show people you can live a great, normal life with diabetes.”

Michaels, who is scheduled to receive an honorary “Father of the Year” award at the American Diabetes Association Gala in Los Angeles, (he is also dad to four-year-old Jorja Bleu) set the record straight about his daughter’s condition on Fancast after the episode aired.”People have been asking about my daughter Raine, and here’s the deal,” he wrote. “She has been diagnosed as borderline diabetic, which is symptomatic to leading to diabetes. She tested a few times positive for sugar or glucose in her urine and then they went in and did actual tests, other than just peeing on a stick. It happened to her when she was 3 and 4 and I thought it had gone away, but it happened again now at age 9. Her weight was changing; she lost a bunch of weight. I knew when I was going in to do ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ that something was up, and when I got the call, I just wasn’t mentally prepared to hear it. I thought they would just tell me that she’s a kid and her body is changing and it’s okay.

“She doesn’t need any shots yet. It’s just diet and pills for her now. This is how ironic that I’m on a show fighting to show people that if you are dealt the diabetes cards, you can deal with it. But when it’s your own child, it’s a completely different reaction. She was scared when she asked if she had to take a bunch of shots like me. That’s what got me. I told her, ‘Look. If you are, look at your dad. I’ve rocked it 41 years with diabetes. You’ll be okay.’ We got real positive about it. She’s on a strict diet and she’s an active kid anyway, but now she’s really watching her health. Hopefully she’ll never have a Type 1 diabetes. It makes me fight even harder on this show to help find a cure for this.”

    ~Angela~ Almost 3 am...Worried About Bret!

I am so worried about Bret Michaels and his girls Raine and Jorja.

May the Good Lord Jesus Christ be with Bret, His girls, Parents, Sisters, Family, Friends and Fans.

Christians believe that Jesus is the mediator ...

Lord guide the doctors and nurses taking care of Bret and let Bret recover 100 % from all of this.

I pray that Bret will take better care of himself and this is a wakeup call to do so.

God you know how much Bret and his music has meant to me through all these years.

Please watch over him. Bless him. Protect him. Heal him. Save him.

I really wish I still worked for Bret.. gave that up 11 years ago due to my declining health. I was the webmaster of his official site. He and Kristi Lynn Gibson saw some of my web designs and asked me to design BretMichaels.com

After giving up my webmaster position with Mr Michaels it took many years for my diagnosis but I discovered I had Fibromyalgia. Coupled with me being a type 1 diabetic and suffering from being Bipolar. More depression than mania. On top of severe social anxiety. UGH… I pray to have more confidence and self esteem.

I had gastric bypass on Sept 14th 2009 and in the last 365 days I have lost 100 lbs!

Been 16 years since I have even dated! 16 years! I pray that I can finally have enough confidence to allow a man into my life.

Bret Michaels' Dad Breaks Silence On Son's Condition

Bret Michaels’ father is speaking out for the first time since his rocker son was rushed to the hospital with a brain hemorrhage.

In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Wally Sychak reveals he spoke to his son by phone on Friday, says Bret is doing well, but is still in intensive care.

“I talked to him this morning,. He sounded upbeat and positive but they had him sedated,” Sychak told RadarOnline.com. “But he’s doing good. He sounded like my son.”

Sychak told RadarOnline.com that Bret’s two daughters, ex-girlfriend, Kristi Lynn Gibson, and his tour manager are currently at the hospital with him.

While doctors have not determined what caused Bret’s brain to begin bleeding, they all seem to agree that it—along with his recent appendectomy–-are complications relating to his type 1 diabetes, Sychak told RadarOnline.com.

“We’re all keeping our fingers crossed and saying our prayers,” Sychak said, adding, “He just needs to be quiet now and get rested.”

BRET MICHAELS RECOVERING FROM EMERGENCY SURGERY

    TOUR DATES TO BE RESCHEDULED

TO RELEASE REMAKE OF SUBLIMES “WHAT I GOT”

Moments before singer Bret Michaels was to take the stage at the Sea World Amphitheater in San Antonio the Rock of Love Star, Poison front man and Celebrity Apprentice contestant, was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pains. After several tests and a CAT scan the rock star received news that he had an acute appendicitis and was immediately taken into emergency surgery at 1:00am.

Donald Trump  states “although Michaels is uncontrollable at times, he is a creative asset to his team and most importantly a  strong fighter.”

That fight may come in handy in his recovery as the singer remains under doctor’s supervision to insure that no unforeseen problems arise due to his life long struggle with type 1 diabetes which can sometimes complicate post operative care.

Several tour dates on his Roses and Thorns tour are being rescheduled.  Michaels is hopeful to make his appearance at the Wichita River Music Festival which would be his first performance post surgery.  The remainder of the tour is scheduled to resume on May 12th in Verona New York.

For the past two decades, Michaels has sold over 25 million records worldwide and has set his musical and creative sights far beyond Poison.  The singer/songwriter will be releasing his solo album “Custom Built” on June 8th, 2010. The album features the new hit song “Nothing to Lose” (featuring Miley Cyrus), the new tracks “Riding Against the Wind,” “Wasted Time” and will also feature covers of the Sublime song “What I got” and Hank Williams Jr.’s “Family tradition.” Custom Built, in true Michaels fashion, has no musical boundaries and will include a variety of different styles such as rock, country, alternative and Americana.

Over this past week Michaels emergency appendectomy was the number one googled item of the week, even getting spoofed NBC’s Saturday Night Lives’ “Weekly Update.  Recently the singer was asked to make a cameo in Rihanna’s new video “Rockstar” but due to the emergency surgery he was unable to appear.

For those of you who have been tuning into the Apprentice you know it has been a tough week for Bret. With the possibility of his oldest daughter Raine being diagnosed pre-diabetic and Bret’s unforeseen emergency surgery.

However, Michaels tries to remain upbeat and would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the Staff at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and all at San Antonio’s Sea World Amphitheater. Michaels would also like to send thanks to family, friends, fans and industry insiders for all the well wishes!

Michaels show at the Sea World Amphitheater in San Antonio has been rescheduled for Friday October 1st.
