Most Insurances require a 6 month diet and exercise plan with MONTHLY check-ins with your Doctor. Most require that your doc monitor your diet and keep good DETAILED records on your diet.
Some insurances do not even allow you to talk to the doctor about anything else other than you diet on your monthly visit. Must be MONTHLY. Missing it by a few days may make you have to start the 6 month diet process over!
Some insurances require weight loss and even require weight gain during the diet and exercise period!
Check online for YOUR insurance requirements. Most publish criteria for Bariatric surgery online.
Call your insurance and ask to be MAILED the requirements for Gastric Bypass.
Go to a Weight Loss Surgery Seminar.
Research Gastric Bypass Surgeries.
Realize and know they are complications involved.

All Surgeons have their own gastric bypass criteria and you must follow those closely!
Eat more protein
Fill up with Protein food first then Veggies, Fruits, and Lastly Complex Carbs
Start trying different Protein Shakes, Powders, and Bars.

Most peoples taste change after Surgery.. so don’t buy too much of any one product in preparation.
Cut food into eraser size bites
Start chewing food slowly (25 times a mouthful)
Do not drink with meals nor 45 min after finishing a meal
Drink 64 oz of water or water mixed with Crystal Light http://brands.kraftfoods.com/crystallight
Carry a water bottle everywhere and sip, sip, sip
SIP Fluids…. do not gulp.
Do not drink at all with Meals or within 30 minutes AFTER finishing a meal.
Do not use a straw to drink
No Caffeine
No Soda
No Carbonated drinks
No Alcohol
No Smoking
Most surgeons do a nicotine BLOOD test before surgery and will refuse to do surgery IF nicotine is found.
Cut out all Simple Carbs such as White Bread, Sugars, Cakes, Biscuits, Fudge, Candy, Honey, Pudding, Jam, Jelly, Pies, etc
Eat More Complex Carbs as Fruit and Veggies
Eat more Wheat enriched products. Bran, Wheat, Whole Grains, Rye, Oatmeal, Grits, etc
Try New HEALTHY FOODS such as Soy Milk, Milled Flax Seed,
Start a DAILY routine of taking a Multi-vitamin, Calcium Citrate, (not carbonate) Vitamin D, Vitamin B, and Iron Supplements, Calcium and Iron must be taken a few hour apart for absorption !
Menstrual irregularities are very normal after surgery. Expect the unexpected.
Most women become more fertile after surgery. Use precautions for at least 18 month to prevent pregnancy.
My Advice it to:
Get a small salad plate to eat you meals on.
Use a sippy cup
Use a baby spoon

Some people who have Gastric Bypass lose there hair… the bible is clear on how to remedy this…..

Meat = Protein!
You may lose some hair after surgery. It has been known to come back in with a different Texture and/or Color than prior to surgery. You may want to buy a few clip on pony-tails while experiencing the hair loss.
After gastric bypass surgery, 98% of Type II Diabetics are cured. No, it is not a remission, it is a cure! And if your diabetes goes away, then you’re not diabetic anymore!
Baby food is NOT a good choice. Too much sugar.
Add Protein Powder to all the foods that you possibly can.
Do not buy a scale till you are almost at your goal, If you do before hand you will drive yourself crazy because your weight may fluctuate.
Vitamin B12 deficiency is very common. May have to take Vitamin B12 injections for the rest of your life. Can give them to yourself.
Expect a period after surgery EVEN if NOT due.
No red meat 1 week before surgery
Fresh Fruits and Veggies can not be tolerated Use Canned Veggies and Fruits at First
Small bites of food are taken, and chew, chew, chew
Eat slowly.
Stop eating when you feel full
Avoid liquids 15 minutes before meals to one hour after meals, but drink 6-8 cups of non-caloric liquids daily, by sips.
95% of female patients get their periods while in the hospital, whether they are due for one or not.
GNC has Crunchy Protein Snacks
Dilute all juices with water.
Get Tuck’s medicated pads for use during Bowel Cleansing
Gastric Bypass causes Ketosis that may cause body and breath odor.
Peel all veggies and fruit. including pickles.
Add Sugar-Free Chocolate Syrup to Barium Drink
corn chips and bean dip is a highly nutritious snack
Wait 6 months post-op for dental work
Ask for Titanium Staples.. since I am allergic to stitches.
